The Brocks Gap Jr
Rifle Program provides a path for 9-19 year olds to learn
firearm safety and skills. They may then choose to shoot
recreationally with our junior club or join the BGTC Jr Rifle
Team to compete with others in one of four rifle disciplines:
BB, AIR Sporter, AIR Precision and Small-bore.
To join our junior
club a youth must complete a formal safety and marksmanship
course such as an NRA Basic Rifle course or an equivalent. We
offer this course typically in the spring and fall. A youth may
get started with the club on a provisionary basis by attending a
2-4 hour FIRST Steps course which are offered as needed.
Attendance for
recreational shooters is optional; however, if more than a year
has elapsed since shooting, a safety refresher will be required
(FIRST Steps). Regular attendance at practice and competition
is expected of team members.
Practices are on
Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:00 pm and shooters are
expected to arrive sufficiently early that they can unpack their
equipment, set up their targets, and are ready to begin shooting
at 6:00.
The Brocks Gap Jr
Rifle Team competes in a variety of competitive events that
culminate in the National Small-bore Matches, the NRA Air Rifle
Nationals, CMP Junior Olympic Nationals, and the BB Gun
Nationals.
If you are
interested or know of another youth that may be interested, come
out and see us during a scheduled practice.
