Notice

We would prefer that all competitors register for the match in advance by email to larlevine@gmail.com . I will reply assigning you a shoot time, request your caliber and ask if you are or are not a SCSSA member. [Non members need to sign a waiver form before they are allowed to shoot.] If you do not pre-register in advance of the match day, you can show up at the match and if slots are open you will be assigned a shoot time for later in the day.

Note:  Shooters can choose to shoot for score & group in the match to 300 yards or shoot for fun and focus on sighting in their rifle at 100 or 300 yards with the help and mentoring of the range officers.

MATCH RULES AND FORMAT

1. WHO CAN SHOOT/CALIBERS:

 The match is open to all center fire rifles/cartridges*** with or without muzzle brake;

             ***except that at this time the berm cannot withstand .50 caliber, so no .50 cal;

2. COMPETITORS SHOOT FOR BOTH SCORE AND SMALLEST 5 SHOT GROUP:

The match is shot 4 classes:

.308,

.223,

Anything Goes  - this includes all other calibers and all rifles with muzzle brakes, except for bench rest rifles which will shoot in their own class

Bench Rest class  - for the bench rest shooters.

3. FRONT & REAR RESTS ALLOWED:

Any form of separate front and rear rests or bags may be used, [the front and rear rests cannot be attached or connected in any way]; Competitors using "Bench Rest" style front rests will shoot in the "Bench Rest Class"

 4. THE COURSE OF FIRE:

TOTAL TIME IS 20 MINUTES TO SHOOT 25 ROUNDS AS DESCRIBED BELOW***:

*** 300 yards- 2 Caldwell 8" "Orange Peel" targets attached to one target backer/stand at the 300 yard berm, 10 shots total;

            -5 SHOTS TO EACH OF THE  8" CALDWELL ORANGE PEEL TARGETS 
 
            -The shooter on the left will engage only the targets on the left, shooter on the right will engage only the targets on the right";

             -Points will be scored as follows:

                        - X [center ] Ring = 5 points

                        -2nd Ring = 4 points

                        -3rd Ring = 3 points

                        -4th Ring = 2 points

 -a hit to the ORANGE area around ANY OF THE 8" CALDWELL ORANGE  PEEL TARGETS = 1 point

 ***300 yards- Each shooter engages 3, 2 inch shooting clays;

             -1 SHOT AT EACH OF 3 CLAYS, ALL SHOOTING CLAYS WILL BE PLACED ON THE BERM,

            -5 points for each clay "SHOT"

            -2 points for each clay "KNOCKED OFF THE BERM" [it has to fall to the ground to count]

            -PLACEMENT IS CRITICAL TO INSURE SAFETY-ALL SHOTS FIRED MUST LAND IN THE BERM

            -The shooter on the left will engage only the 3 clays on the left, shooter on the right will engage only the 3 clays on the right";

*** 440 yards- 2 Caldwell 8" "Orange Peel" targets attached to one target backer/stand [for each shooter] at the 440 yard berm, 10 shots total;

            -5 SHOTS TO EACH OF THE 8" CALDWELL ORANGE PEEL TARGETS 

            -The shooter on the left will engage only the targets on the left, shooter on the right will engage only the targets on the right";

             -Points will be scored as follows:

                        - X [center ] Ring = 5 points

                        -2nd Ring = 4 points

                        -3rd Ring = 3 points

                        -4th Ring = 2 points

 -a hit to the ORANGE area around ANY OF THE FOUR 8" CALDWELL ORANGE  PEEL TARGETS = 1 point

 
***440 yards- Each shooter engages 2, shooting clays [either 2" or 4" depending on inventory];

             -1 SHOT AT EACH OF 2 CLAYS, ALL SHOOTING CLAYS WILL BE PLACED ON THE BERM,

            -5 points for each clay "SHOT"

            -2 points for each clay "KNOCKED OFF THE BERM" [it has to fall to the ground to count]

            -PLACEMENT IS CRITICAL TO INSURE SAFETY-ALL SHOTS FIRED MUST LAND IN THE BERM

            -The shooter on the left will engage only the 2 clays on the left, shooter on the right will engage only the 2 clays on the right";

Total rounds fired per competitor equals 25. Maximum match score possible = 125 points.

 5. No sighter shots are allowed during the match as all shots count for score &/or best 5 shot group [groups are measured at 300 yards], the number of shots is limited to 25.

 6.  UPON COMPETITOR COMPLETION OF SHOOTING THE COURSE OF FIRE & AFTER THE MATCH DIRECTOR CALLS THE RANGE "COLD/SAFE",  ALL COMPETITORS ARE REQUIRED TO GO TO THE BERMS, COLLECT THEIR OWN TARGETS AND SET UP TARGETS AND CLAYS FOR THE NEXT PAIR OF COMPETITORS:

Three shooters will simultaneously shoot the entire match course of fire. After each group of competitors completes the entire match course of fire and the match director gives the command, they will each collect their targets and set up the targets and the clays for the next group of competitors.   

 Immediately upon returning from the berm, competitors hand their targets to the match director and will confirm with the match director their number of hits or misses to the clay targets for scoring purposes.

7. SCHEDULING OF COMPETITOR SHOOT TIMES & LIMIT OF 20 SHOOTERS THAT CAN REGISTER FOR THE MATCH:

Competitors will shoot the match, three at a time,  at fixed INTERVALS STARTING AT 9AM.

             -Shooters "shoot times" will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis by the match director [the sooner I get your email, the earlier the competitor gets to shoot on match day].

A maximum total of 20 shooters will be allowed to register for and shoot the match.

 8. SAFETY ON THE SHOOTING LINE:

 THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION AT ALL TIMES DURING THE MATCH.

 IN ORDER TO PROMOTE SAFE SHOOTING AND AVOID CONGESTION AT THE SHOOTING LINE OF FIRE [AND DUE TO SPACE LIMITATIONS ON THE RANGE E CONCRETE PAD], SPECTATORS AND/OR SHOOTERS WHO ARRIVE EARLY OR STAY AFTER THEIR DESIGNATED "SHOOT TIME" WILL BE REQUIRED TO STAND BEHIND THE COVERED CONCRETE SHOOTING PAD;

 9. TRAFFIC CONGESTION FROM PARKING AT RANGE E MUST BE AVOIDED:

TRAFFIC CONGESTION MUST BE AVOIDED. ALL SHOOTERS WHO PARK AT RANGE E MUST PARK IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT BLOCK ANY RANGE ROAD ACCESS, ENTRANCE OR EXIT [PLEASE BE AWARE OF ACCESS/EGRESS NEEDED FOR THE LOWER LEVEL RANGES TO THE RIGHT OF/BELOW RANGE E].

 10. COMPETITOR ARRIVAL  & ARRIVAL TIME:

All shooters are required to arrive no less than 20 minutes prior to their appointed "match shoot time". Upon arrival, each shooter must nortify the match director.  

ALL BOLTS WILL REMAIN OUT OF THE CHAMBER, ALL MAGAZINES OUT OF THE RIFLE, ALL SEMI AUTO CHAMBERS OPEN-ALL ROUNDS OF AMMO OUT OF ALL FIREARMS-ALL CHAMBERS EMPTY-WITH OPEN CHAMBER INDICATOR FLAG IN THE SEMI AUTO RIFLES- UNTIL THE MATCH DIRECTOR GIVES THE COMMAND TO DO OTHERWISE.

 11. $10.00 BASIC MATCH FEE PLUS ADDITIONAL $5 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CLASS THE COMPETITOR WANTS TO SHOOT IS DUE TO THE MATCH DIRECTOR PRIOR TO SHOOTING THE MATCH:

The fees cover the cost of target stands and targets [this may go up or down at future matches depending on actual costs incurred-any extra funds from a match will go to the range as a donation].

February 2008 Match

10 shooters shot our February 16, 2008 "SCSSA PRECISION RIFLE MATCH", 4 shooters were members and 6 were non members. As previously announced we are scoring the matches by "CLASS".   
Based on the calibers shot, the results are listed in ALL 4 CLASSES, .308, .223, Anything Goes [including all other calibers and all rifles with muzzle brakes, except for benchrest shooters which will shoot in their own class] and Benchrest Class [defined for our matches as those shooters shooting any caliber/rifle utilizing a Benchrest style "mechanical front rest"].  
Future matches will utilize the 100, 200, 300 & 440 yard berms so make sure you have your dope before you show up. Also, Dave and I will be mixing up the targets at the different berms to spice things up and keep the shooters from getting bored [and scoring too high!]

We had 6 shooters for the 10/6/07 match, 5 competed for "score" and "best 5 shot group" and one, Ken Maughan, sighted in his rifle. Two shooters were non members, John Snead who lives near the range and Alan Brown [of the Hardrock Matches near Opelika] who drove down from Huntsville, Alabama for the match.
